Henry Bates

I’ve been a player agent since 2011, helping athletes manage and grow their careers on and off the field.

I specialise in player contracts, placements, sponsorship, employment, and misconduct/judicial support, ensuring players have the right opportunities and protection.
With deep knowledge of the New Zealand and global rugby markets and a background in law and advocacy, I negotiate deals and partnerships that maximise both performance and earnings. Based in Auckland, I travel New Zealand and Europe to support players wherever their career takes them.

I hold a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Physical Education and was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 2009. I bring experience from my time as Junior Crown Counsel where I practised both criminal and civil litigation.

I am a registered agent with the RFU (England) and an NRL Accredited Agent, giving players access to both domestic and international opportunities.
