We represent the collective voice of professional rugby players in New Zealand on issues that matter to them and the game. We take the time to understand players perspectives, consider the wider context, and advocate for outcomes that support a fair, safe, and sustainable professional environment.
We negotiate the Partnership Agreement with New Zealand Rugby, setting the core terms and conditions for professional players across 15s and 7s at national, Super Rugby, and provincial level.
Alongside this collective work, we support players one-on-one, providing advice, guidance, and advocacy on matters ranging from contracts and disputes to navigating the realities of the professional game. To protect players interests, we accredit and oversee player agents through our Accredited Agents programme, ensuring players have access to trusted, professional representation.
Beyond New Zealand, we represent players on the international stage, working alongside global player organisations to protect player welfare and support the long-term health of the game.

Who people become through their time in rugby matters just as much as what happens on the field. The Personal Development Programme (PDP) is our deliberate commitment to developing people, not just players.
Established in 2001 as the first programme of its kind in global professional sport, the PDP remains a defining point of difference for rugby in New Zealand. Through protected time and the support of an exceptional team of Personal Development Managers (PDMs), players are empowered to own their growth, build identity and capability, and shape futures that feel successful to them, during their careers and beyond.
The Rugby Club is the RPA’s lifelong community for all New Zealand’s professional rugby players - current and retired, based in Aotearoa and around the world. It exists to keep players connected: to each other, to the game, and to opportunities beyond rugby.
The Rugby Club unlocks the power of the professional rugby network.
Members stay connected, build meaningful relationships in business and life, access fully funded support services, and maximise their ongoing professional and personal development. It’s a space to leverage the collective experience and connections of the playing group, to contribute, give back, and keep striving for your best long after your playing days are over.
Growth and connection needn’t stop when you hang up your boots. Join hundreds of past and present professional players in the Rugby Club. We can’t wait to see you again.
Rugby lives in our clubs, schools, and communities, where friendships are formed, values are learned, and the love of the game begins.
The Impact of Rugby reflects players desire to give back to the places that shaped them. Through this focus area, professional players support grassroots rugby by sharing their time, stories, and experiences, helping the game inspire and connect people for generations to come.
The RPA supports a range of community-based initiatives across the country. Keen to give back? Get in touch to find out how you can be involved.
